Hello 👋

Exercise more! Become fit! Strengthen your core. Gyms are packed in January, but by February, the regulars often have the place to themselves again. The top New Year's resolutions for 2024 in the UK was exercising more (48%), according to Statista. So, what about a resolution you can actually stick to? Why not focus on getting “AI fit”?

In this week's newsletter

What we’re talking about: How you can create your own practical and sustainable plan to improve your AI literacy in 2025.

How it’s relevant: As AI tools become essential in the workplace, understanding their potential will set you apart. Just as fitness enhances your physical health, AI literacy enhances your professional capabilities.

Why it matters: AI literacy is about knowing how to use the tools available to work smarter, not harder—whether it’s streamlining tasks, generating ideas, or solving problems.

Big tech news of the week

🖥️  Google launched a new, incredibly fast, computing chip. A task that would otherwise take 10 septillion years (10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years, that is), now takes minutes to solve. This has potential to supercharge medical research. It could also crack the most sophisticated encryption, undermining computer security - this highlights the need for guardrails.

🌍 Some very interesting products launched recently. OpenAI’s video creator Sora blew our minds with the previews of AI generated high quality videos in February, and has now been made publicly available. World Labs, a company founded by Fei-Fei Li, unveiled its first product: The spacial intelligence product generates 3D-scenes from one single image.

👁️ A second set of eyes: Radiologists supported by AI were found to increase the opportunity to detect cancer with 21%, compared to cases where AI was not used.

Action Plan: Building Your AI Fitness

Building your personal 2025 AI literacy program doesn’t require a gym membership, athletic wear, or even leaving your home. With small, consistent steps—what James Clear refers to as the "1% method" in Atomic Habits—you can develop the skills to incorporate AI into your daily work effortlessly. Instead of trying to become an AI expert overnight, focus on small actions that build up over time.

What Do We Mean by AI in this context?

Here, AI refers to simple, accessible AI based tools designed to make everyday tasks easier and more efficient. These include tools for drafting and summarizing, as well as creating visuals or improving written communication.

Start Small, Stay Consistent

Think of AI literacy like a fitness routine. You don’t have to become an expert overnight—just dedicate 10 minutes a day to exploring simple AI tools that integrate seamlessly into your daily tasks. These small, steady habits are easier to maintain and will lead to meaningful progress by the end of the year. ChatGPT, only two years old but already a star coach on your fitness path, can customize your personal AI fitness plan for 2025.

You can also start with a simple routine to try a new tool every week. My experience, when my team suddenly faced the same workload with a reduced headcount, it created immediate pressure to maintain productivity and standards. By strategically leveraging AI tools and streamlining our workflows, we not only sustained efficiency but also excelled, focusing on high-priority tasks and consistently surpassing our core objectives.

Beyond Tools: Build Habits, Not Just Skills

Building AI fitness isn’t just about mastering tools—it’s about integrating them into your workflow in a way that supports your goals. Start by identifying specific tasks where AI can save you time or improve outcomes. For example, if your team spends hours editing visuals or formatting presentations, experiment with AI tools like Canva or Gamma.

Once you’ve identified a few wins, expand gradually. Use AI to enhance brainstorming sessions, simplify repetitive tasks, or improve communication clarity. Remember, AI fitness is about finding what works for you and consistently applying those insights.

AI Literacy Beyond Work: Stay Informed

AI fitness isn’t just about doing—it’s about understanding. Dedicate time to staying updated on the latest trends, tools, and conversations around AI. Consider adding AI podcasts, blogs, or newsletters to your routine. Imagine looking back at your 2025 Spotify Wrapped and seeing AI podcasts among your top listens!

Some great starting points:

Evaluate and Reflect

Growth doesn’t happen without reflection. At the end of each month, ask yourself:

  • Where did AI save me time or improve outcomes?

  • What felt clunky or hard to adopt?

  • Which tools were most impactful, and how can I use them more?

Adjust your plan based on these insights.

How to Make Monthly Reflection Happen?

Talk to your future self today and include nudging into your routine.

  • Set a Reminder, add a recurring calendar event at the end of each month titled “AI Reflection.” Treat it as a non-negotiable appointment.

  • Pair It with Another Habit: Combine reflection with an existing routine, like your monthly team check-in or a Friday afternoon review.

  • Involve Your Team: Host a short “AI Wins and Lessons” session with your team to share what worked, what didn’t, and ideas for the next month.

  • Use AI to Help: Ask tools like ChatGPT to create a reflection template or summarize your usage insights from the month.

By making reflection a regular part of your routine, you ensure that your AI fitness journey stays on track and delivers meaningful results, both for you and your team.

Remember, AI literacy is a journey, not a destination.

Until next time.
